Sinclair Women’s Basketball gets 1st win of the season
Dayton, Ohio- Sinclair Women’s Basketball team (1-1/0-0) pulled out a 51-45 victory at home over Cedarville University JV’s (0-2/0-0) for first year Head Coach Victoria Jones. In front a good home crowd and playing for the first time at home, the Pride was able to overcome a poor shooting night to hold on and notch win number one.
Cedarville jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after the first period. Neither team shot the ball very well all night but key was at the foul line. Sinclair was able to make a run before the half ended on a traditional three point play by Ashtin Brandon (5-10/SO – Stebbins H.S.) that pulled the Pride to within 4.
The second half was all Sinclair as the Pride outscored Cedarville 29-19. Sinclair came out strong in the third period and took complete control as the Yellow Jackets had no answers. Outscoring Cedarville 18-7, Sinclair kept control never letting the visiting Yellow Jackets get on any real run.
Down the stretch, Cedarville worked the Sinclair lead down to 4 a couple of times late only to have the home team convert at the line. This was a game of free throws as Sinclair made 18 out of 28 and Cedarville converted 10 out of 20. Also making a difference was 17 points and 12 rebounds coming in off the Sinclair bench by Madison Schroeder (6-00/SO – Carroll H.S.).
