Sinclair Softball takes both OCCAC Weekly honors
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sinclair Softball swept the OCCAC Athlete of the Week awards for Apr. 23-29 with ‘Alexis Squared,’ Alexis Gordon and Alexis Strother, earning Position Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. For baseball, Edison State’s Jake Clements (position player) and Brock Begue (pitcher) of Cuyahoga received the weekly recognition.
Alexis Strother (FR/RHP - Lebanon H.S.) is the conference’s pitcher of the week once again, bringing home her fourth honor of the season. Her most recent award-worthy performance included four appearances in the circle, including three starts, for a total of 16.2 innings. Strother gave up only two earned runs (five total) on nine hits and three walks while fanning nearly two dozen batters (23 K’s). She registered a 3-1 record for the week.
Alexis Gordon (FR/IF – Piqua H.S.) rattled off six consecutive multi-hit contests, hitting .593 (16-27) for the week. She tallied three doubles, seven RBI and scored nine runs during a 4-2 week which included four conference wins. Gordon was huge in the OCCAC triumphs over Edison State, recording all three doubles, all seven RBI and eight of her nine runs during that four-game stretch
Sinclair finished 2nd in the OCCAC (9-3) one game behind Cuyahoga for the conference title. With the second place finish and an overall 25-11 record, they will advance to the NJCAA District Tournament May 9th in Lansing, MI.
