Sinclair Men hold on against Wilberforce JV 108-97
Dayton, Ohio – Sinclair (4-2/0-0) had to pull out all the stops to hold on to a 108-97 home victory over Wilberforce University JV Saturday afternoon.
In the first half, Sinclair was starting to make it look easy as the Pride pulled away late in the first half behind 32 quick points from Sean McNeil (6-04/FR – Cooper H.S. KY). Tre’Maine Gray (6-00/SO – Akron Firestone H.S.) came in off the bench to add 11 first half points as Sinclair headed into the locker room with a 61-43 lead.
Coming out after intermission, both teams traded baskets keeping a comfortable margin 10 point margin for the home team. Somewhere around the 10 minutes mark of the second half, Wilberforce found the range from the 3 point line and that is when the game got interesting.
Coming down the stretch, the two part-time varsity players for Wilberforce took over with a barrage of three pointers. It was the Ohio version of the Splash Brothers (Golden State style) as the McGee & Hopkins from Wilberforce could not miss.
An easy 20 point game quickly made its way down to 2 with under 4 minutes remaining and Sinclair had no answer for McGee & Hopkins. McGee drained 6 threes in the second half and his teammate Hopkins connected on 5 threes. The two of them almost single handedly outscored Sinclair in the second half as the dynamic duo from Wilberforce poured in 45 points alone as the visitors outscored Sinclair 54-47 in the second half.
Coming down the stretch Sinclair was able to make some key free throws and timely buckets to secure the 4th win of the season, not before the visitors connected on 20 out of 36 three points.
In the first 6 games of the season, Sinclair is averaging 99.3 points per game and has now scored over 100 points in 4 consecutive contest
