Collier named Buckeye Charters Athlete of Distinction for February
Dayton, OH – The Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Freshman Michael (Isaiah) Collier (6-05/FR – North Laurel H.S. London, KY) received the Buckeye Charters Student-Athlete of Distinction Award for the month of February.
Each month the Athletic Department in conjunction with Buckeye Charters, will select a Student-Athlete that has been a leader in all three categories; Community Service, Classroom and Competition – also known as the 3 C’s.
This month we would like to honor Freshman Isaiah Collier of the Men’s Basketball team. Collier has not only been active with the team this past fall in the community but he continues to lead the way in the Classroom and on the court.
The fall he was very active in the community for the Men’s Basketball team that included Thanksgiving Day at the Dayton Convention Center volunteering at the annual Feast of Giving. During and even after the break, the team continued to volunteer as youth coaches for the Oakwood Youth Basketball program.
Collier finished his first full time college semester with a 3.00 GPA. An accomplishment to be proud of considering the number of community service projects during the fall and the rigors of playing college basketball.
The month of February starts the push for “March Madness” and Collier had a good month. He had to fight through some injuries as the team relied heavily on his outside shooting. During the 7 games stretch during the month of February, he averaged 9.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Special thanks go out to Buckeye Charters for this award that honors those student-athletes that are great in the three C’s. Buckeye Charters have been providing quality and reliable transportation for student-athletes around the region as well as many other groups for over 22 years. They have proven over the many years of partnership with the athletic department that they also value the commitment to high standards, and this is why we are pleased to name this monthly award: The Buckeye Charters Student-Athlete of Distinction
