Akiean Frederick named 2nd Team All-American

Dayton, Ohio – Sinclair is pleased to announce Sophomore Akiean Frederick (SO/6-9 – Franklin Height HS) has been named 2nd Team All-American NJCAA Division II.

Akiean finished an impressive Sinclair career as only player with over a 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 75 block shots and 45 steals.  He played in a total of 62 games and set a new school record with 60 games started.

He finished 9th in the nation averaging 22.4 points per game, 4th in the nation with 8.4 defensive rebounds per game and 11th in the nation pulling down a total of 11.3 rebounds per game.

His career high in points was a 41 point performance at home against Lakeland on January 16th and in rebounding, a pair of 18 rebound games against Cedarville JV and Cincinnati State respectively. 

21 of his 27 double-doubles was recorded during his sophomore year.  His sophomore class won 50 games in two years which is only the third sophomore class to do so.  The 50 wins in two years is also the most of any OCCAC team and their 21 conference wins is also tied for top spot with Cuyahoga for best in the conference over the last two seasons.

Akiean was a member of the 2015-16 men’s basketball program that won the OCCAC regular season conference championship with a record of 28-3 mark and during the last two seasons, was ranked in the NJCAA Division II Top 20 Men’s Basketball Polls for 22 straight weeks with the Pride being ranked as high as #2 in the nation.

As runner-up to Player of the Year in the OCCAC and a 1st team All-Conference selection, he also earned 1st Team All-Region along with 4 OCCAC Player of the Week awards.

With 1128 career points, he moved into 5th all-time at Sinclair and his 574 total rebounds ranks him 3rd.

This year’s sophomore class made Sinclair Men’s Basketball history in many ways on the court but they also contributed many hours in the community with several community service projects and rounding out the third C, classroom.

Akiean will graduate this May and is planning on continuing his academic and playing career at the next level next year.
