Sinclair Men place four on all-conference teams

Dayton, OH- The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) has announced the 2016-17 men’s basketball honors.  

Akiean Frederick (6-9/SO – Franklin Heights H.S.) has been named to the 1st Team All-Conference and was the OCCAC Player of the Year Runner Up to Cincinnati State’s Donte Battle. 

Akiean has had an incredible two years at Sinclair that included the 2015-16 OCCAC Regular Season Championship.  He has scored over a 1,000 points and has collected 25 double-doubles.  Only the third player in school history to have over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 75 block shots and 45 steals. His single game high was a 41 point performance against Lakeland on January 16, 2017 and his single game rebounding high was against Cincinnati State on February 8, 2017 with 18 boards.  He has averaged a double-double this season with 22.5 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Dwayne Chastain, Jr (6-3/SO – Thurgood Marshall H.S.) earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors as he helped lead the Pride to a 22-9 record.  Chastain was not only the teams second leading scorer at 16.0 points per contest but he was the teams top assist man handing out 6.9 per game.

Joining Frederick and Chastain on the All-Conference Team, LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (6-7/FR – Fort Wayne IN Snider H.S.) earned Honorable Mention All-ConferenceLiDonta chipped in with 10.7 points per game and 7.9 rebounds.  He was also named OCCAC Player of the Week on January 22, 2017.

The fourth member of the 22-9 men’s team earning OCCAC honors this season, Jaquan Harrison (6-4/FR – Columbus Africentric H.S.) named to the 2016-17 OCCAC All-Defensive Team.  Harrison averaged 12.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game, but his on the ball defense earned him a spot on the OCCAC All-Defensive Team.

Akiean Frederick was also named to the 2016-17 NJCAA Division II All-District Team as was once again the runner up to Donte Battle of Cincinnati State for District Player of the Year.  Over his career, he has been named OCCAC Player of the Week five different times and also a member of one of three sophomore classes to win 50 or more games in two years.

After winning the 1st round of the NJCAA Division II Tournament on Tuesday against Edison, Sinclair Men’s Basketball will advance to Ohio Christian to match up against Cincinnati State on March 10 at 6:00 pm.
